Search Engine Optimization Tips

In this second of six videos on helping you build your art website I am looking at domain names, popular platforms to consider using and the role of web hosts.

And here’s the link to the first video in case you missed it: https://youtu.be/_SzcdpHdtvI

Domain names: what are they, ideas on what extensions to focus on, how to check if yours is available.

Platforms: an introduction to Squarespace, Wix, Shopify and Weebly. Plus alternatives like WordPress.
https://www.squarespace.com/
https://www.wix.com/
https://www.shopify.com/
https://wordpress.org/
https://www.weebly.com/

The subscription platforms offer a lot of easy to use functions and make life a lot easier to get a website running but can limit the amount of options you have to change and customize your site. WordPress is infinitely more flexible but will require more work and a higher skill level.

Webhosts: lots available but I recommend Siteground – I host my WordPress site with them and they are amazing! Here is an independent review so that you can see how they compare to other webhost companies: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/siteground and another really in-depth one here: https://hosting.review/hosting-provider/siteground/

To sign up – if that’s what you decide to do – then you can visit them here: https://www.siteground.com/go/swarezart – this is not a sponsored link but is an affiliate one. It’s gets you access to best prices and earns me a small reward. Just want to be clear with that!

Get ready for the next video in the series which will cover eCommerce, how to make your site secure, options to make your site look and feel how you want it to and the importance of optimizing for mobile devices.
