Do It Yourself – Website Tutorials
On today’s episode, we’re diving deep into an incredible wix website transformation and i’m giving you the low down on why wix could be the solution you’re looking for!
Let’s get started!
One of our clients currently has this website that they originally built on wix. As you can see, it’s very basic and could use a little love and design. I’ve already got a new website design approved and ready to go, so let’s get this revamp started!
Diving right into it, i previously added all of the fonts and colors to the theme properties to make the building process even easier. As you can see, everything is drag and drop, which i absolutely love about wix, because the entire user face is 100% customizable and you can place things exactly where you want them. what would take me a few hours in WordPress takes me literally seconds in wix. #winning
WHAT IS WIX?
For those of you that are new to this platform, Wix is a very popular drag and drop website builder that is user friendly and allows you to build a custom website without needing to know any coding. You can choose between either manipulating one of their pre-designed templates or fully customizing your own which i am showing you today. Wix is great for small business and brands or if you’re just starting out because it allows you to get your site up and running, FAST.
For the sake of analogies, you could say that wix is like good old fashioned PowerPoint but on steroids. If you have someone in the drivers seat designing your website, you can really create a beautiful masterpiece on wix.
BUILDING WITH SEO IN MIND
For this website, we not only did the custom design, but we also wrote all of the copy to ensure the website has a strong SEO keyword presence to get it ranked on google.
What is important to understand is that when you are building a website, the more words on your pages the better when it comes to SEO. but this doesn’t mean to word vomit on your pages to get it packed with information. you want to focus on your selling points and strong keywords that your target audience is going to connect to. Not to mention, no one is going to read a book on a website.
But this can be a whole other video all together, so we can go into more of SEO later.
EASY TO USE NAVIGATION
We are big on less is more and having an easy to navigate website, so we focused on utilizing a lot of buttons and breaking up text into different sections. This allows breathing room and prevents your viewer from getting overwhelmed.
For this website, the user flow is pretty standard. You have the homepage with generalized overview that touches all of the main key selling points, a sub-page with more detailed information, a lead generation form as well as a locked training portal that is only visible to their members.
This is one of the snazzy elements that wix offers that is popular because it allows you to bring a bit of exclusive elements to your business and to have a library of information ready to go for when you sign up new leads.
HOW TO USE WIX
Like I already mentioned, Wix is very user friendly and has a drop and drop building platform. But, if you’re not a designer and don’t want to create something from scratch, Wix will actually walk you through setting up your site and offers a variety of pre-designed templates to choose from, narrowed down by industry.
With the templates, you can customize everything from the fonts, images, color schemes and even the layout. And the best part? You don’t have to know an ounce of coding. With this easy to use builder, a designer or individual who knows what they’re doing, can have a new website up and running within a couple of days.
Wix is great for: Small businesses, Restaurants, Portfolios, Entrepreneurs, Small online stores, Non-profits, Gyms, Writers, you name it! If you have someone in the drivers seat designing your website, you can really create a beautiful masterpiece on wix.
Another thing I love about Wix is the fact that it gives you the ability to design for any platform. You start by designing for the desktop, of course, but once you have your design locked down you can switch to mobile view to control what viewers see when they are on the go.
Now, this is SUPER important to remember because 90% of views are viewing your website from their phone. And if your website is hard to navigate, difficult to read or images are overlapping your text – you’re going to miss out on a potential lead.
But, don’t worry. Wix takes it easy on you and gives you a full preview of what your website will look like on a phone.
And just like that, our client has a brand spankin’ new website! Tell us what you think about the transformation in the comments below!
